From the Mississippi Department of Archives and History Governor Alcorn Collection. Letter from W. B. Davis to Mississippi Governor James L. Alcorn, sending Alcorn a copy of an indictment from the Grand Jury of Grenada County, Mississippi, against Adolphus Ruoff and Kate Ruoff for the crime of larceny. Davis informs Alcorn that Kate Ruoff is out on bond and Adolphus escaped to Kent County, Michigan, and has been arrested in Grand Rapids, Michigan. He is requesting that Alcorn make a request for the return of Adolphus Ruoff.

From the Mississippi Department of Archives and History Governor Alcorn Collection. Letter from L. C. Norvell to Mississippi Governor James L. Alcorn. The letter is partially damaged, missing left side margin. Norvell writes to Governor Alcorn as an ally and asks him to keep him in mind if a position comes available in the state of Mississippi or in the United States. Norvell goes on to express his satisfaction with Alcorn as Governor but understands Washington D. C. needs him more than Mississippi. He also refers to the Governor as upholding the "holy stream of paternalism". (H. F. Hewson writes that Norvell is requesting a position for a mutual friend)

Hewson, asking for Governor Alcorn to pardon a Mr. Riley who was convicted of stealing a watch and $70. Cummings believes Riley is innocent of these charges.

Vasser of Monroe County.

Strobecker requests that he be appointed to the position of Justice of the Peace in Washington County, Mississippi. He writes that currently there is only a one Magistrate and he is gone on business often which means the citizens of the Washington County are traveling to Greenville, Mississippi to conduct their business. He also makes it known that he believes his appointment would be accepted by all parties and races. (Enclosed is a letter from C. C. Shakleford introducing P. A. Strobecker to Governor Alcorn
