Petition to Mississippi Governor Adelbert Ames; Undated

Petition from citizens of Adams County, Mississippi, to Mississippi Governor Adelbert Ames, requesting that Thomas Jenkins, convicted of assault on Jefferson Banks, an African American, be released to care for his family. The petitioners ask Ames to use his influence with United States President Ulysses S. Grant to secure Jenkins' release. The petition is endorsed by Sheriff William Noonan of Adams County.
