The petition of James H. Craft was received a few days ago, with such backing as is not fully comprehended.

Our vicinity did petition for the release of Mr. Craft from the Mailitia, for the purposes, and in consideration of the facts set forth in the petition. But it appears that the original petition, had been sup-planted by a copy, all drown up by our scribe, and beleiving that the idea of fraud had thereby been created in your mind, at the suggestion of some of the friends I have been induced to write you this explaination. Mr. Craft is an excellent tanner, and is now ready to go to work but at the time of the drought, his yard was only [commenced?]. We hope if we have construed your [?] [?] in reject-ing his petition, that you may be lead to reconsider your action, as the country are greatly in need of his services.
