Sir:

I am instructed by Maj Genl Smith to acknowledge the receipt of a note from you in regard to a negro boy Lee the property of Mr. N. A. Catleff and to state in reply that whenever a negro becomes sick, of those impressed for work upon the fortifications, he is immediately sent home if that course is practicable or if his master or agent will call for him, is immediately turned over in charge.
