Brandon July 19^th 1865

Dr sir.

Understanding that Mr Kemp of this place has made, or is about making application to you for the appointment of Post Master at Brandon, I beg leave respectfully to submit the following facts.

Shortly after the surrender and when the Military Order vacating all offices held under the Confederate Goverment was published, I was appointed by verbal order from Gen^l Maltby then in Command at Jackson Post Master at this place and took possession of the office and all the property and effects belonging thereto.

Afterwards to wit on the 24^th day of June 1865 I received from Gen^l Osterhaus a written appoint-ment, which is here refered to; and thereupon forwarded to the Genl Post office department at Washington City an application in due ~~fom~~ form accompanied by a petition of a large number of the citizens of Brandon and vincinity, including all the professional and business men of the town—which application has not yet been heard from.

I have thus far conducted the business of the office with fidelity and dispatch and as I have reason to believe to the entire satisf-action of the Community, and desire to be retained in the office if consistent with your views & the public interest.
