DeSoto County Missi Sept 1st 1865

To his Excellency
Gov W L Sharky

We the undersigned Citizens of Flewellyn's X roads would respectfully ask your Excellency's assistance in the Establishment of a Post office at this Place. There are now be-tween four & five hundred families who would receive their mails there & who are entirely deprived of all mail facilities there being no regularly established Post Office nearer than Memphis, a distance of thirty eight miles

We beg to recommend for appointment our Fellow citizen James A Harris, who is in every respect qualified to discharge the duties of the Office & loyal to the United States

Sir I take Pleasure in recommending for your favorable consideration and recommen-dation to the Post Master General of the United States the annexed Petition for a Post office, and Post Master at the place mentioned in Petition to be named De Soto Post office (if there is no other Post office in the State of this name), Mr Harris whose name is presented for the appoin-tment is a Loyal Citizen who had taken the Amnesty Oath and has never been a Soldier nor had any connection with the rebellion as Confederate Government. De Soto Post office if Established will be 15 Miles from Hernando in the most densly populated Settlement in the County yours & c
