From the Mississippi Department of Archives and History Governor Sharkey Collection. Ration return of Captain Thomas W. Caulfield, Company H, 3rd Maryland Cavalry, requesting twenty-one days rations to be issued for the men of his command at Hazlehurst, Mississippi. The return is approved by Assistant Adjutant General W. A. Gordon, by order of Major General Peter J. Osterhaus, thus authorizing the Assistant Commissary of Subsistence to issue the requested rations.
