By order of Governor Clark we send you by Major J. S. Powers returns of W^m Barksdale Mr & Mrs Genl., M. McAfee Mr & Mrs Genl. and Cha^s Clark Maj. Genl. A. M. with reports of Asst. Mr & Mrs (as far as reported) in support of ad-vances made by Col. Barksdale & Col G McAfee, enclosed please find abstract amt^g to $669.652.⁸² to be audited for the State of Miss—

&As we were not furnished with a list of the claims allowed in Col. Barksdale & Col. McAfees returns from March 9^th to Aug^t 8^th 1861 we could not make out a correct abstract of the vouchers still due the State by the C. S. Govt. as many of the vouchers were allowed in part & the vouchers retained by you. Our only course was to prepare the vouchers returned the best they could be from the data in and possession, & return them to you with an abstract for the whole amount of the claim filed in your office in August 1861

with a credit of the amount paid on same by C. S. Govt. You will find an abstract out in due form from Aug^st 9^th 1861 to Feby./62 of the vouchers paid by Col McAfee.

The returns of R. W. T. Daniels Major & A. Q. M. Genl. are not certified to & there is no property return to accompany his vouchers, Maj. Daniels being dead it is impossible to have them certified to, many of his papers were burnt up in Jackson by the enemy, & it is supposed the property return & voucher were destroyed with his other papers—

Those Asst. Qr. Ms. whose returns do not ac-company these papers, will be sent on with the next abstract of payments, viz Maj. L. Mims, Maj. J. M. Haynes, Genl. C. G. Dahlgern &c. As many of the officers are dead & others cannot be found, it is impossible to prepare all of the vouchers according to Army Regulations but, have prepared them the best they could be under the circumstances—

In a short time we will be able to forward on the balance of the claims due the State
