Sir

I wrote to you from Columbus but owing to the unsertainty of mails, I will with your permition address you again, The late disasters of Genl Hoods, has reduced my Regiment to sutch a small number that it will be consolidated this winter, I desire to change my position in Infantry for one in Cavalry, and would respectfully ask your assistance, If you will give me permition to rais a command to consist of a squaddron of Cavalry, I can with but little difficulty rais a command of three hundread men, who have never belonged to an organized boddy since the war
