To his Exellency ^Charles Clark^ Governor of the state of Mississippi

Your petitioner Sarah Jane Hopkins a citizen of the county of Clark in said state, respectfully shows unto your Exellency that your petitioner is the widow of Tilman Hopkins. that her said Husband died in the military service of the Confederate states—in September A D 1862. Your petitioner further shows that her son William Hopkins was arrested on on Sundy the 10^th,, day of April ^inst^ charged with Beatiality & was committed to the jail of said county for want of Bail being required to give bond in the amount of fifteen hundred dollars and your petitioner being verry poor was unable to give said bail

Your petitioner further states that her said son William is only thirteen years of age in the month of August last. That whatever may be the facts of the said charge, it is one of verry doubtful character when the [page torn] the liability of the party charging to mistake.

Your petitioner in consideration of the youth of her son & all the circumstances of the case hereby asks that Your Exellency will interpose the pardoning power & grant her said son a full pardon upon the condition that he joins the military service of the Confederate states, which he is willing to do, and to which I hereby give my full free & perfect consent. And we in duty bound Your petitioners will ever pray &^c.
