Commanding the Department of Ala. Miss, and East La. or the General Commanding the District of southern Miss, and East La.

Sir;

We the undersigned Citizens of Warren County Miss, respectfully beg to call your attention to the following facts relative to our sit-uation. We have been deprived of all means of obtain-ing a living by the Yankee troops, and are in continu-al danger of being depredated by straggling bands of armed negros. In addition to these dangers this County is now overrun by Deserters and bands from different Scouting commands who are plundering indescriminately. As a protection against these marauders we respectfully request that a small but

efficient force of men be detailed to Scout in this County with instructions to arrest these Deserters and marauders, and ^protect^ us and our families from futher molestation.

We are Citizens loyal to the Confederate Govern-ment in whom a Confederates soldiers have always found true and tried friends, and hope we may be protected from the depredations of those disgrac-ing the uniform of our Country.

With this hope we respectfully submit this petition.
