His Excellency. J. L. Alcorn
Jackson Miss

Sir, Tho not a Politician, am a citizen, and old citizen of Noxubee, and as Such feel a lively interest in all that pertains to the general good of our people, and understanding there is Some trouble as to who Shall be Sheiff, desire to Say, that it generally believed here that C. B. Ames would accept the appointment if given him, and from nearly 27 years geneal acquaintance in the county, say emphatically, in my opinion no other man in ^or^ out out of the county, would give So general Satisfaction to the authorities at Jackson & in the county, as he would.

He is as good a collector as is in the county, if not the best.

He would do ^his^ whole duty to all classes of citizens.

He would account for all the money collected.

He would make no collections not contemplated by law.

He would be sheriff in fact if sheriff at all, as he is not nor would not compromise himself.

I remark that no man So much as Suspects that I have or will write a line on the above Subject, but that I do it under the impression that the interest of this county and State demand it
