Macon June 8^th 1870

Mr. R J Mathews,

Dr Sir

Yours of 6^th inst I received this morning, I have no distinct recollection of the facts in the case of Eliza Davis, upon the examination of the true bill found by the Grand jury, I see she was charged with braking the house` of one Peggy Lutrell and stialing one cevertit, valued $10, one pistol at $20.⁰⁰, four pieces of Bacon of the value of $1.⁵⁰₀₀ & four pounds of butter, values at $1.²⁵ all amounting to $36.⁰⁰., My impression now is, that there was some mallice in this prosecution, but the particular facts have excaped my mind.

She was also as I see from. the records found gilty of stialing about five hundred dollars of promisry notes from one James M^cGowen of various amounts and sentenced two years for that offince, I cannot now recollect any thing of this case either. it is all from the same neighbor-hood in this county, commonly called Buck Snort
