Hon J L. Alcorn

Dear Sir

I was appointed as one of the commissioners of Election for the year A D 1868 by the commitee of five & Seved for fourteen Days was to get Six Dollars per day with traveling expences I have been told by one of my neighbors that he has received his money So being poore I have a helpless family I ask this favor of you to attend to it for me if you can get it for me pay your Self out of it & send me the ballance by express

for I feel that I am doomed a cripple for life to day one week a go I caring a prisoner to [over?] county Jail & delivered him up to the Jailor & started for home & while in the attemped to throw my gunn

on my Shoulder it Slipt ^out^ of my hand & failing to cetch it She fired puting Sixteen Buck Shot in my left ancle or rather the went through I am Suffering now so bad that I have not the pospper mind or Strenght to write
