Dear Sir,

I have just learned that steps are being taken by parties here to have Mr Saris?, our Clerk removed from Office and feeling a deep interest in my County's having faithful and efficient Officers—I hope you will therefore pardon the liberty I have taken. While I am free to admit Mr [Saris?] incompetency—(ren-dered so [?] by the excessive use of strong drink) I nevertheless, as a friend of your ad-ministration would like, as would all your friends of this county—to see a competent man ap-pointed in the place of Mr [Saris?], if as we are informed. that an application has or will be made for a change—I shall be in Jackson in a week or ten days and may I ask of you in the behalf of your friends of this county—that if Mr [Saris?] is to ^be^ removed—that you will defer immediate action—in order that we have an opportunity of recommending a good and responsible man for the position
