Dear Sir

I wrote You a few days since saying to You that I had rec^d,, an appointment—As one of The Board Supervisors Did not think I could conscientiously take the Oath prescribed by the Laws of the state Also said to You that I had My reasons for not taking it. That I had aided & abetted in the rebellion held Office before the War, and was Deputy Probate clerk during that war took the Confederate

oath was always opposed to Secession and opposed the going out of the Union until Fort Sumpter Fell—But I done all that I could do with money &c to aid my Country,

It is greatly wished & desired by the citizens that I should qualify. We are much in need of a Board and Therefore would suggest as a very fit and suitable person for the place A L Crow a citizen of the town who can qualify and enter immediately upon his duties
