To His excellency
Gov. J. L. Alcorn.

Dr Sir

I hope you will not think me presumptious, nor asking too much, but I must ask you not in my behalf but in behalf of the citizens of Bolivar County, the removal of F,, G,, Gamble a Justice of the Peace, appointed by your honor in beat N^o 2 of this county some twelve months since. He has done considerable business collected $500, or $600 in fines, which accrue to the common school fund under the statute and should be paid to the County Treasurer on collection [gap] I have called on Esquire Gamble as County Treas. and demanded his report and money as often as four times, and he has positively refused either to make his report or turn over the money [gap] I think Sir proper to remove

Esq. Gamble and would respectfully reccommend the appointment of W,, V,, Battle esq. a native of Miss, a gentleman well qualified, and furthermore, has, and will work with our party, and will be acceptable to the community at large
