To his Excellency Gov. Ames.

In the year 1867 I delivered to J. W. Young & Co. then Lesse's of the Miss State Penitentiary, a bill of lumber amounting to eight or nine hundred Dollars, for which I have not yet been paid except a small amount. I suppose there is now due on the bill some seven hundred Dollars, havent the necessay papers before me or would give you a full statement of the whole matter.

The material was all used in and for the Penitentiary Consequently I think the state should pay me for it I therefore appeal to you for assistance. I have made all reasonable efforts to collect the money out of J. W. Young & Co. and find it impossible to ever collect anything out of them. But as the lumber was all used for the benefit of the state I think the state should pay me for it. I worked very hard to make the lumber, and believe that have to pay enormous burthensome taxes to support the state government. should you see proper to give my request your attention please address me at Lawrence Station Newton County Miss
