I would very respectfully request that your Excellency appoint Louis G. Cabanis of Los Angeles California, Commissioner of Deeds for the State of Mississippi

Capt Cabanis is of Mexican birth served in our army as A. Q. M. during the rebellion and is in every way a suitable person for the office sought, which is valuable to him only because it will complete his list of appointments from every State as such Commissioner

He is a cousin of mine and therefore I know him well and shall be doubly obliged if he is appointed
