To His Excellency A. Ames
Prov Gov of Miss.

Sir:

I would respectfully invite y^r attention to the case of a Colored man by the name of Ben Jones convicted by the Circuit Court 1868 for larceny of Cotton and sentenced to the Penitentiary for, I think, three years, those who have been intimately acquainted with the said Jones are of the opinion that he is not of sane mind & that he took the said cotton at the bidding of a man the name of Dan Hughes; I would respectfully state that I consider this a case for executive consideration & clemency.
