J. J. Pettus

Dear Sir

As the Executor of the last will and testament of the late Olivia Dunbar, deceased, of Jefferson County in this state, I have the honor, through you, to offer to the Senate and House of Repesentatives in General Assembly convened two portraits of public men, to be disposed of by them as they may deem fit and proper. They are liknesses of two citizens, whose names and characters are identified with the past history of Mississippi, and on that account, deserve to become the property of the State. One of them is the portrait of ^Hon^ David Holmes the last Governor of the Territory, and the first Governor of the State of Mississippi. The other is a likeness of ^Hon^ Thomas H. Williams one of the first Senators, elected by this State, to the Congress of the United States.
