Articles of Enlistment To the Lauderdale Springs Grays Miss. Volunteers

We the undersigned do by these presents agree and bind our=selves To form a Military Corps To be called the Lauderdale Springs Grays. And we do agree to uniform ourselves, within Ten days after enrolling our names, with the following Uniform, Viz. Round Jacket & pants of gray cloth—Jacket [unclear] one row of buttons in front and To but=[unclear] stripes of yellow braid running down [unclear] Military black glazed Cap, [unclear] correspond, as per pattern [unclear] ourselves to be governed and ruled by such Rules, Regulations and By-Laws as may be hereafter adopt=ed by the Company—Said Rules not To Conflict with the Military Laws and Discipline established or that may be established by the Confederate States of America. When fifty in number shall have enrolled their names hereto, we agree to go into an Election of Officers and adopt a Constitution and By-Laws; and as soon thereafter as possible to tender our services to the Governor of Mississippi for the service of the Confederate States. Given Under our hands in Lauderdale County May 13. 1861.

The foregoing members of the Lauderdale Springs Grays' respectfully represent to Your Excellency that they have formed themselves into a Military Company for active service; and most respectfully but earnestly tender their services to the Governor of Mississippi, for the term of One year unless [unclear] the [service?] of the Confederate States of America [page torn] an order be granted for [page torn]
