D^r Sir

Ordinarily I would not feel authorised in addressing you—But for our Common and present troubles—I desire to ask information of you in reference to the arms of miss or of the South—if not presuming too much on your time—or wrong to the public interest—I ask for the benefit of a friend in Missouri—a Zealous secessionist—and who in common with his people feel great interest in the embarr-assed Condition in which they now find themselves placed—He writes from Cass Co: that they are allmost unanimous for immediate secession—but are much embarrassed in feeling and action—because they have 110 arms of any amount and cannot now get: unless from or through the south—Could Miss—if officially applied to furnish any arms to Missouri or could L^a or the Confederate Government—

Of course these facts I may Suppose already known to the Government of Mo: and should not be made public—But would it injure if the facts were thus privately commu-nicated to such citizens—a certainty of either [unclear] is better than a doubt—an interest for our common welfare—I trust will be apology sufficient to you If I am asking too much—I am respectfully your Obt Svt: W^m.
