At a joint meeting of the Mer=chants and citizens of Holmes, at the Court House in the town of Lexington on 29^th, day of June 1861—on motion of J, M, Haynes, W^m H, Dyson was called to the chair, and M Levy requested to act as Secretary.—

Amongst other thing James M, Dyer Esqr. ~~thus~~ offered the following reso-lution;

Resolved, That, in the opinion of this meeting, the Legislature of this State should be con-vened to consider and devise such means as may be deemed necessary to aid in the defence of the country, and we request his Excellency, the Governor, to convene it at an early day—for that and other purposes.—

The resolution was passed, and
