Honored Sir;

Amidst your arduous duties, I hope you will do me the kind=ness, to notice the fol-lowing statement.

I have two grown Sons. The older is in the army at Norfolk. The younger would have gone, but I objected, thinking my duty required me to give but one, at the first call.

The younger D. P. Bestor jr. is twenty two years old. Has been to a military school; Is a graduate of our Oxford

College, and has studied law. He is steady, and has, for some time been drilling a company of home guards.

"Now he longs to follow to the field some warlike lord." I wish, perhaps from partiality, that he should obtain a commission I think he deserves one.

I write this to you as an old Aquaintance, I hope I may say Friend. Would it be in accordance with your duty to suggest to me, what course to pur-sue, or could you au=thorize him to assist in raising a company for the war.
