Ruckerville Miss July 15th /61

Gov. Pettus—Dear Sir:—we are endeavoring to raise a horse Company at this place, to serve in the army of the Confederate States for 12 months. We have 35 or 40 names enrolled, who have volunteered for this purpose

How many men are required for a Company of this sort? Are such Volunteers in demand? Will you receive us? And if so, will the State furnish us arms? Or do we have to furnish our own arms and Equipage?

The above are some of the questions often asked me, and as I am not verry well informed a Speedy answer will verry much oblige your friend
