Dear Sir

[page torn] earnest request of some of my young [page torn] I address you upon a subject that we [unclear] a deep interest in. The War.

[page torn] state to you that I have known them infancy and this community will bear [page torn] in saying They are young men of character I mean Capt' Crutcher and Miller of a Volunteer Co named King Cotton Guards. They inform me have made application for 59 Missi [page torn] which have been in the hands of the [page torn] Guards the past 3 years. That a [page torn] of that Co have become members King Cotton Guards and are now the rest of the members of that Co ready to be mustered into active

I am acquainted with the officers [page torn] of the men. I feel satisfied the could not be placed in better hands what the officers will be willing to give to the proper authorities for the [page torn] tern of the guns ^at the^ expiration of the war the Co will be willing to repair them

place them in perfect order and will havemore agree to put Bayonets on them and return the Guns with the improvements the State when the Co returns from the that the Co have been in charge of the [page torn] ut property at the Fort above this place [page torn] have some time past are pretty well drilled [page torn] competent to make all other necessary [page torn] for the equipment of the Co.

[page torn] placing the guns in the hands of a [page torn] ready to march the Government will secure services of a full Co which otherwise it loose.

Sir you will give the subject that attention you may think the public interest [page torn]. In complyin with the request I am [page torn] you will never have cause to reject it
