Governor Pettus—

Dear Sir—

Some time last April—Minor C. Dixon—was mustered into the "State Service" for twelve months —in a Cavalry Company—it was afterwards changed—to an "Artillery Company" however as the "Jefferson Artillery" he remained with his Company—in Camp—in this County—and at Mississippi City—until recently when the Company were ordered to Lynchburg Virginia—but its destination was changed and they went to Bowling—Green Ky—at the latter place when the Company was to be mustered into the Confederate Service —"The Confederate Officers—who was to perform this duty—informed Mr Dixon and all others - that those who did not wish to go into the Confederate Service—had the right to decline—Mr Dixon never having intended from the beginning to do anything but remain in the "state service" came home from Bowling—Green—and now wishes you to give him a discharge from the "Jefferson Artillery" his twelve months

will expire in April—under his original enlistment—he is the clerk of our Executive Court—and as there is now no special state service—in which he can serve out his twelve months—I hope you will under all the circumstances grant him his discharge—if so please direct it—To Minor C. Dixon Fayette Miss"—
