Vicksburg Miss March 25, 1862

Madam

I have just received a letter from Jacob Ozelle wishing me to write to you & state what I know of his former habits—I would say that I have known him several years and have never known him otherwise than an upright honest man—and I firmly believe that whatever has led to his incarceration in the Penitentiary has been the work of some other person—&as he was ever ready to trust others—and Consequently easy led into error—& as you may judge from his being so easy drawn into invest his all in a partnership with that worthless fellow—Frank?—who had nothing to lose,—but judge & Mrs Montgomery know him well for he was in their service for some time—and there are few persons who know the Judge or his lady that are prepared to doubt their veracity
