Dear Sir

These are times when Patriots should throw all ceremony aside—I therefore address you, with=out hesitation——When in Jackson about two weeks ago—I showed you an Endorsement of my qualifications from our faculty at P. Gibson & amongst them D^r,, R G Whartons, a relation of our attorney Genl & equally distin=guished for the virtues that comb=ine to make a man. I also showed you the Endorsement of my friend D^rT J Mitchell, upon the strength of which you gave your recom=endation, favoring my application for a Surgeon commission—Since that time Events have transpired that prevented my going to Richmond. and now tis allmost impossible

to get through on this route—Besides I greatly prefer serving on this line and as there are several Regiments now organizing here, I would be glad to have your influence throug a letter to Col Acer or Neill.

I am well known to Mr John F Moseley whom you well know also Fayett Winston—for years have been Mr Moseley family physician also physician to family of Col R T Archer & D S Patterson family—I enclose you a letter from Col Archer, which please return.

Should you Governor feel disposed to favor me with your influence, it will be properly appreciated—I never dissipate in any way—The best years of my life been have given to a close & rigid pursuit ~~for~~ of Medical & Surgical knowle=dge.
