My dear sir

Sergeant Henderson of Company returned here to day. Having failed to effect the release of his brother he is quite desponding, and requested me to write for him. I know your excellency has little time to give to minor matters in this crisis of our Country. Allow me now without any importunity to call your attention to the facts of this case. Sergt Henderson took from this state one of the most respectable petitions in favor of himself and brother. In the county where the offence was committed he obtained 211 signatures ^and was told that would suffice^ of them 10 were petty and 11 were grand jurors. The rest of them were absent some in the army; some removed the rest temporarily absent. Mr Harden Supt of the penetentiary will give his brother a certif=icate of good character since under his control. With the wish that Miss may soon drive the invaders from her soil I am
