The 1st Regiment, Alabama Infantry (Confederate) was organized in March 1861 in Escambia County, Florida under the command of Col. Henry D. Clayton and served in the Western Theater in Quarles' and Shelley's brigades, Army of Tennessee. It was later commanded by Col. Isaiah G. W. Steedman. (FS; NPS-BU; ADAH)
