The Army of Central Kentucky (Confederate) was organized in fall 1861 under the command of Brig. Gen. Simon B. Buckner and served in the Western Theater. It was later commanded by Gen. Albert Sidney Johnston and temporarily by Lt. Gen. William J. Hardee. It was merged into the Army of Mississippi on March 29, 1862, and reorganized as the Army of Tennessee on November 20, 1862.
