The 18th Battalion, Mississippi Cavalry (Confederate), also known as the 18th Battalion, Mississippi Partisan Rangers, was organized in late 1862 under the command of Maj. Alexander H. Chalmers and served in the Western Theater. They were consolidated with part of the 5th Regiment, Mississippi Cavalry and Saunders' Company to form the 18th Regiment, Mississippi Cavalry on March 16, 1865. (DR-MSOR, 819-825;HMU, 48; NPS).
