The 8th Regiment, Mississippi Infantry (Confederate) was organized in August 1861 in Clarke County, Mississippi under the command of Col. Guilford G. Flynt and served in the Western Theater. The unit was reorganized in May 1862 and served under J. K. Jackson's, Gist's, and M. P. Lowrey's Brigades. It was later commanded by Cols. John C. Wilkinson, Aden McNeill, and Capt. H. W. Crook.
