Confederate States of America. Army. Mississippi. Infantry Regiment, 6th

Originally organized for state service as the 6th Regiment in the Army of Mississippi, the 6th Regiment, Mississippi Infantry (Confederate) mustered into Confederate service (numbered the 7th Regiment by the War Department until November 1861) on August 24, 1861 in Yalobusha County, Mississippi under the command of Col. John J. Thorton. It served in the Western Theater under Cleburn's, Marmaduke's, and Bowen's Brigades and was later commanded by Col. Robert Lowry and served under Rust's, Baldwin's, Adams', Reynold's. (HMU, 15-16; DR-MSOR, 556-564; NPS-BU)
