Dear Sir,

You will discover from the enclosed paper that I have recently had a negro most brutally murdered. It occurred during my absence from the State, and the perpetrator of the deed was permitted to escape. It is thought that he is now at ^or about^ Huntsville Ala=bama, and will remain there for some time.

The shooting of negroes by overseers, and other irresponsible men of the country, is becoming too common a thing among us, and I deem it nothing ^more^ than right that an example shall be made of this man Mooney, if he can be found—The safety of our property, and the reputation of our Country (I think) demand that an act such as this shall not go unpunished—

What think you then of forwarding your requisition to the Governor of Alabama, for the usual warrant or writ to be issued to the proper officer of the County in which Huntsville is situ=ated & If you are of the opinion that
