Dear Friend

I plague you with a fiew lines the subject which will informe you that Governor Pettus forgot his promise to write to Judge Cothern as he said he would—but the Judge— being in Jackson last July & in the presence of the Governor Thomas Garretts came in his mind and he the Judge volunterly broched the subject of Thomas Garretts case being ~~[?]~~ = one deserving the attention and clemency of Excellency and I have this day wrote to the Governor respecting of the mater and I do expect he has my letter at hand and I am now beging you to write case before him do all the Justice possible to get ^him^ to agree to the pettion which I left with him for his consideration & I am greatly in hopes we will get a pardon granted for my child & I am certanly your friend forever [gap] Mary Garrett
