Dear Sir.

You are no doubt aware of Mr. John Girault former Sheriff of Claiborne Co commiting the fault of Defaulters to the Co & State—now I have taken it wholy upon myself to meet his liabilities to said county and State, as I cannot think of letting any one of his Bondsmen suffer for a fault of my husbands. My motive in writing to you, is to ask you to release me from the damages

on the original debt which will amount to $25.00 or more, but if you will be kind enoughf to release the damages, it will be the means of not casting a woman (who is has been in feeble health from the time of her misfortunes) and her little children out into this cold world without even a home_ for a release from those damages will leave a little for me and mine, but if you should not acceed to my request, it will take the whole of my sainted father. Major B. Shields hard earned property to pay the debt I would have prevented these damages had I have had in my power to do so. I do not ask a release from my part of the original debt as I feel too well that I would but meet with a prompt refusal. If you acceed to my request let me know also my lawyer Judge L. N. Baldwin
