To His Excellency Governor J. J. Pettis

Dear Sir allow me the privi-lege to write you a few lines in relation to the position of our country

We the citizens of this community being desirous of doing or making prepa-ration for the Safety of our country under the presant crissis. We wish to know if we can form ourselves into a Military Company to practice and Study Military Tactic and discipline, and to be ready at any time to defend ourselves at home or in any part of the State when called on and nessary, we will expect to furnish our own arms unless you have have surplus one to dispose of

one of the object of this company is to have it arranged so that all the old men can goin it and the Boys so they can drill & practice military discipline and be in readiness when actually needed to go into Service will furnish the ablest and best of our men for service we wish to make it up out of Sid of those called for by the State

please to write and sugest some plan if there is any by which we can organize Such a company and give me all the information on the Subject you can
