Sir

I am in receipt of ^Mr George Connelly^ of a letter from my merchant enquiring about the debt guaranteed by him to [?] Hyde & Goodrich for sabres & Rifles bought by Genls Van Dorn, Clark & Griffith the last march & due in 90 days ^from purchase^—I wrote him about the trouble in the Rifles & that the amount only of the sabres would be due on the note & said to him that I would request you to have placed in his hands the means to take up the note & for him to correspond with you, as I should be away in the army you will confer a favor by having this matter attended to in due season and Mr Connelly informed officially how the matter stand

A citizen of this county who has 40 00 50,000⁰⁰ in cash, spoke to me yesterday about investing it in the state loan—If you want it let me know and I will see him and get him to invest it if he is still in the notion. Our Company is very anxious to get off, if we are to go—
