Hon Mr John J Pettus Governor

Dear Sir

having Learnt that there was A pretty Considerable Quantity of Condemd Arms in the Arsenal at Jackson and that there is home Companys forming in our County and the Dificulty in obtaining Arms of A Bitter Quality than [Birn?] Gunes I would Suggest the Idey of Letting them out to Such Companys upon the Captan Gaving Bond & Security for the Return & safe Ceeping they would Doutless be more Efficient than Such Gunes as could be obtained in our Market at any thing like a Reasonable price and at the Same time the Guns Mite be Put in a Condition that there mite be valuable in Case of Insurrection or invasion and at the Same time put A price on the Gunes and perhaps if it is not too high the Company Mite take them at the price the Iuca Company pre-fers the Musket I only Suggest this thing by the Request of the home Company that is Hard up at this place please inform me on this Matter Early yours Respectfully &c
