Saltillo Miss May 25^th/61,

His Excellency Gov Pettus:

Sir we are organizing an artillery company at this place to be called the "Pettus Artillery" and we wish to know if you can furnish us with a battery, and if so, please let us know how soon, as we desire to be called into active service imme-diately, having been informed that this was the only arm of the service that would be needed.
