To His Excellency J. J. Pettus Gov^r

Dear Sir

Enclosed you will find the resignation of Col. E. C. Walthall district attorney of the 11 Judicial District of Miss—If you shall acept his resignation & Make an appointment. While I have no wish to influence the appoint=ment & have no choice as to whom shall be apppointed I would take the liberty to say that Robert N Galladay of Coffeeville would make a very efficient ^prosecuting^ officer. Col. Walthall is now in the Confederate army and when he will return I do not know.
