New Orleans November 19th 1861

To His Excellency John J. Pettus
Governor of Mississippi
Jackson,

Dear Sir:

We had the honor of addressing You on the 30th met, and not being favoured with a reply are again Compelled to call your attention to our unpaid account, if the Continuance and prosperity of our business did not require the money due us by the State of Mississippi we would not trouble you, the accontrements ordered by your State, through your Ordnance Officer Col Samuel G. French was contracted for Cash payments on delivery of Goods. no house Could undertake any of these orders without Cash payments, as was explained to you by the [?] when at Jackson in the early part of October, that all our purchases were Strictly Cash, although our House stands as High in Credit as any other in the City. Yet we could not buy Leather or any other Material on Credit—the delay in the payment of Your debt. has caused us Serious loss—we therefore trust that you will at once make a requisition on the Treasurer for the amt. due us—awaiting your early and favourable reply we remain,
