Dr Sir I am authorized by Genl's Polk and Pillow to raise a Batallion of Cavalry I am also empowered to draw on the Quarter master & Commissary's department to supply the wants of my Companies. & to muster in my men as fast as recruited. The Company in Camp at this place (Capt. Middleton Cavalry from Panola) is anxious to go with me and I write to you because some person in organizing a Ballation or Regiment may endeavor to get command of this Company,

I am anxious to get off with my Battalion as soon as possible. I have now three Companies—can you give me two more? or have you any you can transfer to me:—Is it not necessary before leaving the State to make a report to you—Please write me in reception of this.
