His Excellency J. J. Pettis

Sir,

Referring to the interview which I had the honor to recieve, I beg leave to tender Your Excellency in behalf of the State of Mississippi the services of Brown & Co London, Brown Vernon &Co of Liverpool, and Brown Fleming & Co of this city. We can offer more advantages than any other House on this continent for negociations in purchases in Europe. We have connections in Europe which are able to grant facilities to any movement in the Confederacy we endorse

Should you do us the honor of accepting our offer any communication addressed to this House will have prompt attention. The best of references given if required—

I shall leave for Europe on the 1^st of January, and shall be pleased to receive a reply bearing on this subject, and if possible and consistent with your official position or on the policy of Miss.
