To His Excellency J. J. Pettus

Dear Sir

I am at home on business for my company now stationed at Pensacola—in 5^th Miss Regt. We need shoes & other clothing and if there is any chance for me to draw the money due us from the State I could purchase everything needed before going back to Pensacola—Since coming to Miss I learned that our legislature has abolished the Military Board & that Maj. Edmonson has nothing to do with the Q Master^s department—Please telegraph to me immediately whether I could draw for myself or not if I were to come through Jackson—would wish to draw for my whole co. but will come to Jackson if I can only for myself. My leave of absence will expire shortly & hope you will telegraph to me at this place immediately—
