Corinth Miss January the 7 1862

Hond A B Dilworth

Dear sir when the Cavalry company was organised one Mattocks that came from Georgia he said out here was Elected a second Lutinant and quit before the Company was orderd out he got Several men to agree to go out with him to Joint as he said Benj McClellen, forces in Arkinsas and we Supposed he had done so Jno Duncan as Every body knowns and Captain Roddly and Dick Johnston must on and keep the company up and Elected Roddy in place of Inge Captin and W. C. Martin a relation of Col Connack 2 Liutinant ^in place of Madock^ It send out that Mattocks and his men never has been in any Service and that tuck off with them five manard Rifles they have know returned with them and the company being full and over of men that has been 2 months in Service and they refuse to Surender to the Company there manard Rifles Generals Alcorn & Davis made a military order that all men that was in the Service shall not be required to return to this Caverly Compay but shold be required to give up to the State arms I hope

^you^ will see Governor Pettus and say to him as they are stole arms for him to esure an order to J D Roddy Captin Requiring him to take the armes for the use of his Company or to Compell them to go in to Service for 12 months in Some Compay that kneeds numbers the prasant Compay of Captain Roddy gives full but J K Polk at this place is authorised by Genl Polk to Raise a Compay to Gard the Confederate States and the state stores and the ordinance department at this plaice and he cannot do so for want of arms and such men as James F Maddock and his associates that dodging the Service and thay are all able boddied yong men but they are lead on by him and the arms be longes to the state and shall be in Service please hand this letter to Gover Pettis and say to him to wright to me givin me a thank ^for Roddy^ & to prep all them Guns in to Service as they are stole arms I will be down and the 16 Quat
