Dear Sir—

By an act recently passed by the legislature of the state I am informed the distillation of grain &c is stopped today—

I had for some time passed been engaged in The business and had on hand a lot of beer & corn meal—the latter—injured for any other purpose & which if left to spoil would be of no avail to anyone else in this state but a material injury to me—I ask your official sanction to dis-til it—I refer you to Gen. A. M. West of your city for testimony that this act of kindness on your part would not be an injury to anyone—

Should the supply of liquors on hand for hospital purposes fall short at any future period and a necessity for more I offer the use my stills to the state or Confederate government for that
